In a house, the bathroom is the one place where there should be no compromise.
At least, that has been my principle for a long time. We spend a significant portion of our time there, especially when in the toilet.
So, whatever I use has to be catered to my needs. For me, it used to be a regular toilet seat and a roll of toilet paper.
But a few years ago, I discovered bidets and bidet seats, and my life has changed for the better. The improved hygiene reduced waste, and lowered irritation were reasons that convinced me to make this switch.
Over the past few years, I have researched hundreds of bidets available in the market and found favorites, old and new.
But this can get pretty overwhelming.
There are so many options, and it becomes for new users to choose. So, let us focus on just two models today.
These are the Toto WASHLET bidet seat models.
These come in C2 and C5 variants, which are essentially improved versions of their older models.
Both the washlets, C2 and C5, are essentially updated versions of the TOTO C100 and C200.
But what is the difference between the two of them, and which one of them is worth getting for your toilet? Let us find out in this article.

About C2
In the case of C2, the height has been reduced from 7.5 inches to 5.75 inches, and it has a width of around 18 inches.
It comes with a side panel, which offers better control features. The c100 model also contained this panel.
However, it had poor readability, which made it difficult to use for many people.
But the new C2 model has large buttons towards the front for accessing the main features.
At the back, you get secondary feature controls such as temperature, deodorizer, energy savings, etc. And that is about it when it comes to the design of the C2.
As for functionality, the C2 is also upgraded. It still offers aerated warm water, which is gentle on the skin. But it is enough to give you a thorough clean, even if you have mobility issues.
Things such as front and rear modes, and oscillating and pulsating spray modes offer a luxurious experience as well.
A warm air dryer, temperature and pressure adjusting system, and seat heater also make it the perfect bidet seat for you. Unlike c100, however, TOTO’s EWATER+ system is incorporated in the C2.
And that allows the tap water you use to be disinfected without using any toxic chemicals. Aside from that, it also comes with a nozzle-sanitizing feature.
That means you do not have to do work to clean it yourself, and leads to overall safer usage.
About C5
As I mentioned above, C5 is also an updated model. TOTO has changed the c200 to its beautiful C5 design. It is around 5.75 inches high and 15 inches wide.
And that not only takes up less space in your bathroom but also gives it a sleek and stylish look.
Just as c200 provided features such as warm water spray with pressure and temperature control, front and rear modes, oscillating and pulsating spray modes, etc., C5 does too.
It also has a warm air dryer and seat heater, but it lacks the night lights all the same.
But what is new? Well, in this model, you get a separate remote control. It contains the required buttons for the related bidet features and is extremely easy to use.
Aside from that, the EWATER+ feature, which functions in a way similar to the C2, is also present.
Thus, you get to use clean, toxin-free water on your body without any worries. Other luxuries of this bidet seat include deodorizers, premises, etc.
Toto C2 VS C5: Detailed Comparision
Although the C2 and C5 are both upgraded from the TOTO c100 and c200, they are not the same.
While they can be excellent additions to your toilet, it is vital to understand their differences.
Only then will you understand which one suits your needs the best. The primary difference between them lies in their control.
In the C2, the control is on the side panel attached to the bidet. In the C5, on the other hand, a wireless remote does that job.
Although this seems minor, it can make a vast difference, especially for those with movement issues. Other differences include their breadth, user presets, etc.
The TOTO C2 is around 18 inches in width, while the C5 is nearly three inches shorter.
The former also does not come with user preset options, while the latter does.
That means you cannot set the instructions suited to your needs and someone else’s who uses the same bidet toilet as you.
Specs/Features | Deal Breakers | Verdict |
---|---|---|
Price | The Toto C5 is a little more expensive than the C2. | Although the price difference is not much, do check before buying any one of them. |
Dimensions | Although the TOTO C2 and C5 are similar in height, the former is wider than the latter. | If you want to give your bathroom a sleeker look, you should go for the C5. |
Controls | The TOTO C2 has a side panel with readable buttons for the different features. On the other hand, the C5 has a remote control. | If you are dealing with mobility issues, the remote control of C5 might be the right choice for you. But if you prefer the convenience of not having a separate device, you might like the C2. |
User presets | The TOTO C2 does not come with user presets while the C5 does, meaning you can customize your settings. | If you live with a partner or family or roommates, the C5 will allow for more customization. |
Pros of C2 and C5
When considering the perfect bidet toilet for your bathroom, there are lots of factors to consider. From its features to its design to its functional aspects, everything has to be judged.
Thus, in the case of TOTO C2 and C5 bidet toilets, it is necessary to learn about the benefits of each of them. That will help you make a more informed decision.
In the case of C2, the design of the gadget is pretty sleek, and it comes with the necessary features. Its side control panel also allows you to adjust any functions you need at the push of a button.
Since it is directly attached, there is no chance of misplacing it. And the instructions are readable as well. It is also pretty affordable, which makes it attractive to different users.
As for the TOTO C5, it has all the standard features of the C2. Thus, it can be a great addition to your bathroom too. In this model, however, there is a remote control.
And this can be great for those who find it difficult to lean down to see the buttons on the side panel. Aside from that, it comes with user presets. That means that if more than one person were to use it daily, they could save their preferred settings into the system.
Cons of C2 and C5
Without using a bathroom gadget, it is difficult to judge what works and what does not. But in most cases, there are some which have evident disadvantages, especially in comparison to others.
For instance, if you were to compare C2 and C5, there were some cons for each of them that you could easily spot.
Understanding this allows you to make a better choice if you are confused.
In the case of the former, the side panel might be an inconvenience to some. That is because you have to lean down every time you use it.
That is especially a problem for those who have mobility issues due to pregnancy or physical disabilities.
The lack of user presets also can be an issue as there is no way for you to customize settings to your needs.
It means that every time you use the toilet, you have to reconfigure the controls to get your preferred modes.
The C5, however, has its issues. For instance, while the wireless remote control is convenient in one way, it can get misplaced easily, especially if there are kids in your house.
Besides, storing this remote is also an issue. You can get it attached permanently, but it sort of defeats its purpose. But if you keep the remote on the other side of the bathroom, it will be annoying to get it every time.
The user presets give you a lot of customizability, but it increases the price. Thus, for nearly the same features you are paying more.
The Choice between Toto C2 and C5
As you can already see, these two washlet models are pretty similar in the way they function. From the EWATER+ features to the sleeker designs, they have replaced their c100 and c200 predecessors for the better.
The primary difference between the two lies in the control, as explained above.
So, which one should you choose? Well, it all comes down to personal preference. For me, both the side panel of C2 and the remote control of C5 are equal in terms of convenience.
But that might not be the case for others. The C5 gains quite a few more points from me due to its user preset feature.
But if you are the only person using your bathroom, this will not be a problem for you. Thus, it is wisest to consider both of these variables to find out what suits you the best.
Conclusion
Bidet seats can be a great addition to your bathroom, making your life thousand times easier.
If you are switching from toilet paper to bidets for the first, either of the TOTO washlets could work for you.
The same is true if you are replacing an old bidet. As I said before, it really all comes down to what you want your bidet seat to offer.
Choosing correctly allows you to make the most of your bathroom and have the desired experience every time.
